The smoke free plan will be continuously implemented in eight places of Bagan ancient cultural region in NyaungU Township of Mandalay Region this year, said Deputy Director U Nyi Mon of Bagan Archaeological Museum.
These eight places scatter in NyaungU District Information and Public Relations Department, NyaungU Traditional Medicine Hospital (25-bed), PIC Information Centre, Tuyintaung Pagoda, Maha Bawdi Pagoda, Basic Education High School in Myinkapa, BEMS in Taungbileyar and NyaungU Sports Ground.
“We set more plans to create eight more smoke free areas. So it needs to erect the
signboards on smoke-free areas. In addition, we will arrange seats, tables and dishes
for smoking in separate areas,” said the deputy director. Existing smoke-free areas in 15 pagodas, five departmental offices, four schools, six restaurants, 15 hotels and lodges and three playgrounds, totalling 48 have been set with separate smoke areas and erecting
posters for avoiding smoke.
On 17 September, the oficials in groups will collect the census on situation of smoke-free areas at 56 places including the newlyset places with the use of census forms issued by the
Health Foundation. “We will scrutinize the situation of local people on smoking and their behaviors over the smoke-free plan.
Then, we will give educative talks and campaigns about disadvantages of smokes to the local people,” said the deputy director.
